The most expensive part of production is the shoot day: crew, equipment and location. Walking away with a single clip is waste.
Plan the ratios before you shoot
Frame so the shot survives both a vertical and a horizontal crop, and leave margin around the main subject. That one decision saves a whole reshoot later.
A shot list, not a single script
Write the shots you need: product, in-use, detail, atmosphere, face. Each one can later carry a clip of its own.
Capture the alternates while you are there
The same shot at three speeds, or from two angles, costs minutes on location — and a full day if you need it afterwards.
Agree the deliverables in writing
Before the shoot, settle it: how many cuts, in which ratios, delivered when? A written agreement prevents the most common dispute between client and studio.
